John Roemer, professor of economics at Yale, writes: “The idea that socialism depends on cooperation, just as capitalism depends on competition, has always been present in the conception of socialism.” At first sight, that statement seems obvious. …

    March 30, 2025 12 minutes read

Markets carry something profane—or at least, that’s how many people feel. And it’s not just because the Christian Gospels recount how Jesus, enraged, drove out merchants and money changers with a whip after finding them doing business …

Hi, I’m Ricardo. Welcome to my Blog!

I started this blog in 2017, as a way of recording my thoughts on a range of topics that I find fascinating; you can have a feeling of them by checking the Categories section.

When I write, I like to highlight connections between seemingly disconnected topics, or bring together ideas that are typically treated separately. I am a mathematician, so sometimes I like to approach the subjects I am writing about from a quantitative angle.

Although every once in a while I touch on current affairs, I prefer to write about themes that I think will be as relevant in a few years as they are now.
